Stakeholders Provide Constructive Suggestions on the Zero Draft of 2022 UN Ocean Conference Political Declaration

On 23 March 2022, an online briefing was convened by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to share their inputs with the co-facilitators on the zero draft of the 2022 UN Ocean Conference political declaration.  

ONCE tuned into the online stakeholder briefing for input on the UNOC Political Declaration Zero Draft, raising our ambitions to take the transformative actions to halt and reverse the severity of climate change and the decline in ocean health. 

The outcome of the conference hope to establish a brief, concise, action-oriented and governmentally agreed declaration. The briefing opened to proposals from interested parties including non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, the scientific community, the private sector, philanthropic organizations, major groups and other stakeholders and circulated their constructive suggestions on the zero draft of the Declaration. 

The 2022 UN ocean conference will be held under the overarching theme of scaling up ocean action based on science, innovation for the implementation of goal 14 stocktaking partnerships and solutions. The conference will be co-hosted by Portugal and Kenya and held in Lisbon, Portugal from 27 June to 1 July 2022. The official program of the conference consists of a mix of plenary sessions, eight thematic interactive dialogues whose themes have been decided by member states, as well as special events and side events held on the margins of the conference.
