
Research Center for Marine Carbon Sink and Biogeochemical Process Approved
Recently, the Research Center for Marine Carbon Sink and Biogeochemical Process (simplified as the Center below) under the National Natural Science Foundation of China has been officially approved. It thus has become the first Basic Science Center of National Natural Science Foundation of China in the maritime field. The Center is headed by Academician Jiao Nianzhi of Xiamen University, with key members including XMU Professors such as Academician Dai Minhan and Professor Zhang Rui, Professor Jian Zhimin of Tongji University, and Wang Xiaoxue, researcher of South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Aiming to‘Respond to Climate Change and Support Carbon Neutrality’, the Center focused on the international frontier of basic science of marine carbon sink formation and regulatory mechanism.

Scientific Cooperation with universities in Macau
In April 2021, Director Fan Wang was invited to visit Macau University and University of Saint Joseph, in Macau. Signing MoU with USJ, Macau. The cooperation involve, but not limited to (1) marine biodiversity and global change, (2) marine biogeochemistry and environmental change, (3) marine ecosystems and ecological disasters, and (4) marine resources and ecological restoration etc.
