On June 8, 2021, more than 260 representatives from more than 120 units and institutions, including national ministries and commissions, local governments, research institutions, universities, enterprises, social organizations and international organizations, participated in the China seminar of the United Nations ‘Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development’ ("Decade of Ocean"), which is also one of a series of activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of China's restoration of its legitimate seat in the United Nations. Professor Jiao Nianzhi was invited to attend and deliver a special speeach on "Ocean programmes for carbon neutrality". The conference proposed the action goals and implementation contents of China's participation in the Ocean Decade, which will contribute actively to the development of Marine science in coastal countries along the Belt and Road and global ocean governance.
