On May 30, 2021, the 20th Academician Conference of Chinese Academy of Sciences held the academic report meeting of all academicians in the 7th Annual Academic Conference of the Faculty. The report was broadcast live simultaneously, and more than 3 million people watched the event online. Jiao Nianzhi, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to deliver an academic report titled "Ocean Negative Emissions". The report points out that Marine negative emissions are an important way to achieve carbon neutrality. Based on the latest research progress of Marine carbon sinks at home and abroad, combined with the actual situation of China's Marine areas, the report discusses the theories and methods, feasible paths and schemes of marine negative emission, including land and sea integrated exchange enhancement, offshore anoxic environment exchange enhancement, mariculture area exchange enhancement, coastal zone blue carbon exchange enhancement, clay and mineral exchange enhancement, and coral reef ecosystem exchange enhancement, etc. We should further promote the international science program on Marine negative Emissions led by Chinese scientists, launch international standards for Marine carbon sinks, and provide China's solutions for China to advocate a community with a shared future for mankind and actively participate in global governance.
